Way back in April of 2019, we talked about Dad’s JKU (Link to the Story) along with installing Mac’s Jeep Box. The same company that makes the best tie downs in the industry also makes a great storage solution!

The Mac’s Jeep Box is easily installed behind the rear seats in any 2007+ Jeep Wrangler 4-door. The factory floor storage wells are still accessible due to the Jeep Box’s innovative tilting design. Lightweight powdercoated aluminum construction allows the Jeep Box to include a fully locking drawer and a separate lock to keep the unit itself safely secured in the back of the Jeep. The factory floor cover is replaced with an aluminum integral floor that is part of the box for maximum security and durability.

Exterior Dimensions:

  • Width: 34in (35-1/4in to ends of buttons)
  • Height: 16-1/2in
  • Depth: 28in
  • Overall depth of plate: 33-1/4in

Interior Drawer Dimensions

  • Width: 29-5/8in
  • Height: 11-5/8in
  • Depth: ~27in

But can it be used in other Jeep models? What about an LJ? Well, I’m here to tell you that it will fit…at least in my 2004 Jeep Unlimited.

Now securing it to the tub is going to be on you. Since the box was meant to also pivot up to access under the floor of a JKU and lock into place, those attachments need to be removed. After the brackets are removed, the underside is a smooth clean sheet. Maybe a thin piece of rubber mat underneath it and a couple of tie down straps to hold it in place may work just fine for you. As we all know, clean and elegant solutions are not typically the easiest. With some work and thought, I’m sure mounting it more permanently to the floor would be better, safer and cleaner.

What about security? This box fits inside the wheel wells, and inside the door latch. The drawer still opens and clears the latch pin, but the box cannot be slid out easily. If the tailgate is locked and the box is locked…well, let’s just say your items are very secure.

This box is also only 28″ deep, which, in an LJ, leaves a lot of space in front of it…enough space for a refrigerator…or any other items you want to take with you.

So if you are looking for security and a clean storage solution for your items, don’t count out Mac’s Jeep Box, even if it says it’s just for JK’s! For my particular configuration, this box is a little too tall since I have some items that require the full height of the tub…but when not traveling with those items, this thing is awesome!

Stay tuned as we explore other storage options for the “Overlander” inside of us…

We give this box a solid 5 out of 5 Jeeps!
