After 5 years on the road and over 4500 vehicles on and off MetalCloak’s Corner Travel Index (CTI) Trailer, is was time for some new legs (jacks) on the trailer.

And with the #CTITour2018 underway including a first-ever stop at King of the Hammers as part of the BFGoodrich Garage, it was time to upgrade!

The #CTITour2018 will be be at the BFGoodrich Garage during King of the Hammers

While the original jacks performed very well all these years, they were tired. Since they mounted on a round tube mount and were meant to pivot, the holes through them had become wallowed out and allowed them to pivot some even while mounted in a fixed position.

The new jacks have a square mount which should help them remain stable as vehicles pull on and off the trailer. The new jacks are manufactured by Bulldog and appear to be much beefier than the prior jacks. And although we did run into a minor manufacturing “defect”, (see video) these new mounts and jacks should provide a much safer and overall more comfortable user experience.

We did modify them a bit by cutting off the handles and welding a nut to the crankshaft to allow them to be extended and retracted with an impact gun and socket. MUCH nicer then swinging that handle around and around.

We’re excited to utilize the new setup and look forward to seeing you at the next event!

This is the error we found on one of our jacks. The cotter pin was drilled in the wrong location which didnt allow the shaft to extend clear through the jack.

What other color would we use?

Thanks to the guys at Alpine Offroad & Performance (Jimi Lawson) and the folks at eTrailer for taking care of the defective jack!

Specializing in marketing, visibility, relationship and brand building, and acting as MetalCloak's field marketing representative, I have travelled across the country (quite a few times!) using Metalcloak’s CTI (Corner Travel Index) to educate the off road enthusiast. I have also worked with Jeep Jamboree USA as event staff, to provide additional value and education to its participants. I've been fortunate enough to work with both international as well as domestic media; have attended most of the off-road events across our country; and have driven a wide variety of vehicles.
