There’s this little event held each year at California’s Johnson Valley OHV Area the week of February 2nd
through 8th, where over 50,000 people show up for the “Mad Max meets Burning Man” event known as King
of the Hammers (KOH).

This year on Monday Night, February 3, 2019, before the endurance racing begins, there’s an event within the event, known as the “Shootout”. It has taken place at some of the most notorious obstacles that are close to Hammertown such as “BackDoor” and “Chocolate Thunder”. This year, the course would use a section of what has been used for qualifying in the past…with an extra steep rock wall at the start.

The driver’s talk strategy

The Holley EFI Shootout presented by KMC, King Shocks, and Action Sports Canopies show is arguably as entertaining to watch as KOH itself! People come early in the week to Hammertown just to watch the Shootout and see rigs ranging from homebuilt rock crawlers to bouncers from Southern Rock Racing Series (SRRS) as they compete for the fastest time up a huge vertical rock ledge.

It’s KOH’s unique version of drag racing, with 20 rock bouncers coming from the South to represent.

Fans were treated with talented hosts/announcers during the event…some of you may recognize them. I urge you to watch the video and give a listen to their commentary…they were almost as entertaining as watching the rigs!

Let the entertainment begin!

Specializing in marketing, visibility, relationship and brand building, and acting as MetalCloak's field marketing representative, I have travelled across the country (quite a few times!) using Metalcloak’s CTI (Corner Travel Index) to educate the off road enthusiast. I have also worked with Jeep Jamboree USA as event staff, to provide additional value and education to its participants. I've been fortunate enough to work with both international as well as domestic media; have attended most of the off-road events across our country; and have driven a wide variety of vehicles. I'm a certified PADI scuba instructor and have a BS in Computer Science.
