Every. Single. Year. For 53 years in a row actually. This event has been All For Fun.

All-4-Fun is a week long, 4-wheel at your level event. They offer trips from easy to extreme and run at least 16 trips each day. All-4-Fun changes locations throughout Colorado every year. Locations include places like Empire, Leadville, Buena Vista, Silverton and other great Colorado towns. Keep this in mind because as a traveling venue, you will receive different experiences and trails from year to year.

There is a fee to attend All-4-Fun and registration is required for each vehicle. Group trips leave daily from camp to numerous trails within the area. Some trips will test your skills as a driver and put your vehicle through its paces. Other trips can leave you speechless as you view the stunning scenery of the Colorado Rocky Mountains. John Denver was right, you will feel that “rocky mountain high.”

This year the event was held at a new venue just outside Buena Vista, Colorado, at the rodeo grounds. A plethora of trails surrounds this entire area, and Buena Vista puts everyone pretty much right in the middle of some of the best trails in Colorado. Trails like Chinaman Gulch, Carnage Canyon, Holy Cross and  a bunch more are available as guided trips each day.

It takes a lot of people and help to organize an event of this size…and the Mile Hi Jeep Club come out in full force to make it happen! Give a listen to our recent podcast with Cory Moul for more about how he puts this event together!

It also happens to be one of my favorite places to wheel and explore…as I happen to have some roots here! My grandparents used to own the Golden Burro Cafe in Leadville…a long time ago! And some of our readers know my dad…well he went to high school in Leadville. I went to junior high close by in Salida after my grandparents moved down valley.

The Vendor Show typically takes place in the middle of the week on Wednesday which makes it a great time to get to spend a couple days on the trails before show day! This year we started out right and made the hour drive up to the Holy Cross City Trail with a few of our friends from Warn Industries and Clemson 4WD Center!

Since we had one more day before the Vendor Show, it was a great opportunity to take out my friend Tom Trotter that came up from New Mexico for a couple days. He had never been to this area before so I figured we would check out Grizzly Lake, just past the Mount Antero turn off, past Mt. Princeton. Colorado has had a crazy winter this past year and it shows in the high country! Lots of large snow slides, rock slides and mud slides have made many trails unpassable.

And since this year was a year of breaking in Golden Spike, my recent LJ build, I’m also still finding those small things that I need to address. I sheared the bolt holding the tie rod clamp for the hydro assist ram. Not a major breakage, but I will say that its been a long time since I’ve driven an “unassisted” Jeep with big tires in big rocks…and its not fun.

The gatekeeper at the beginning of the trail can be a challenge, but a carefully chosen line makes quick work of it. After the gatekeeper, the steep climb up the hill has become very loose and the rocks are getting bigger due to erosion. Take your time and you will get to the Lake…

We are already making plans for year #54! This event needs to be on your short list!

Specializing in marketing, visibility, relationship and brand building, and acting as MetalCloak's field marketing representative, I have travelled across the country (quite a few times!) using Metalcloak’s CTI (Corner Travel Index) to educate the off road enthusiast. I have also worked with Jeep Jamboree USA as event staff, to provide additional value and education to its participants. I've been fortunate enough to work with both international as well as domestic media; have attended most of the off-road events across our country; and have driven a wide variety of vehicles.
