Installing a SpiderWebShade Mesh Top on my TJ Jeep

My family loves to wheel our Jeep top down with the sun shining brightly and the scenery passing overhead.  Unfortunately over time the sun has taken a toll on some body parts.  But rather than give up on top down, we found a solution — the SpiderWebShade.

At a Jeep Beach event a while back the owner of SpiderWebShade, Chris Plaisance saw Red (our Jeep) running on the beach with the top still up.  He offered up a “shade” and told us, “Del, you need to enjoy the full experience of jeeping while not getting sun-burnt!  Join the Shade Brigade!”   I later learned the Shade Brigade was just that — a loyal following of customers who swear by their SpiderWebShade.

Chris and his wife started making tops in the summer of 2005,  developing their “mesh top concept.”

They are now based out of 24,000 sq ft. testing/manufacturing facility in the heart of Downtown Orlando, FL.

The shade fits right under Jeep Wrangler hard tops, soft tops, and Kini Tops. It does not get in the way and never has to be removed.  Proudly produced in the United States of America, it blocks 90% of the sun’s harmful UV rays while keeping passengers (and pets) 27% cooler.

TJ Installation

We took the rolled up SpiderWebShade and a handful of “spider balls” with a simple explanation from Chris (as written directions are not necessary for this product, it is so easy), and voila, in minutes we were protected from the sun’s harmful rays and yet still could see the sky.

The mesh shade is a clean install on most any jeep.

We rolled out the shade and let it warm up a bit in the sun.  After lying it over the roll cage and ensuring we liked the placement, it just took a few minutes to attach the spider balls (bungies) from the shade grommets to the cage.

Spider Balls easily attach the shade.

SpiderWebShade makes other products as well, including the GrabBag featured below on the grab handle, TrailSac for trash and more.  We have tested all of these products with the same conclusion — quality gear made to do the the job it is advertised to do!

Recommendation

Not only does the TJ have a quieter ride, but  I also no longer have to be “that guy” on a beautiful day running top up! I am enjoying the scenery, top down, not getting sun burnt, with a product of the highest quality made in the USA. I give the SpiderWebShade a “5 out of 5-Jeep” rating — highly recommended.
