Let’s Keep Our Trails Clean! Hold My Beer…

Weekends on the trail are a blast. There is nothing like waking up to the cool summer air, removing the doors, top, and loading down the cooler with the day’s goodies. All too often I see rigs on the trail and see the driver with a can of beer in their hand.

Many folks see no harm in this and believe they won’t get a DWI because they are off-road. This is not the case. All local, state, and federal laws do apply when you are behind the wheel. There have been multiple police reports of “jeepers” driving drunk on walking and/or biking trails. Many rigs have been totaled on the trail due to driving under the influence. This has resulted in bodily harm and even death.

Here in the Eastern part of the United States, the trails are heavily wooded. Filled with greenery as far as the eye can see. Over the years I have noticed copious amounts of garbage on the trails, specifically beer cans. This is one of the very reasons we have lost our ability to enjoy some of this nation great public and private trails. Now don’t get me wrong, I love a good cold beer as much as the next. But if I wanted to see trash, I would go to the dump!

I guess what this whole thing comes down to is that we must be the ambassadors for our sport. Take the high road. Be responsible and take action. You don’t have to drink to have fun while wheeling. And you’re not “that guy” for asking someone to put the drink down and wait until your wheeling for the day. Use your Trash-A-Roo and stuff it full of the litter lining our trails. Its not just me that wants to keep wheeling on these trails, I want it for our children and grandchildren. So “hold my beer” until we get off the trail for the day.
