The date (near March 21 in the northern hemisphere) when night and day are nearly the same length and Sun crosses the celestial equator (i.e., declination 0) moving northward. In the southern hemisphere, the vernal equinox corresponds to the center of the Sun crossing the celestial equator moving southward and occurs on the date of the northern autumnal equinox. The vernal equinox marks the first day of the season of spring.
If you live south of the equator, this is your Fall Equinox.
Crawling for Reid is a charity off road event that was started in 2015 to help a young child in Marietta, Georgia with the astronomical costs of dealing with a terrible genetic skin disease. The child’s name is Reid Underwood and he was diagnosed with Epidermolysis Bullosa (EB) shortly after his birth in May of 2014. This event started to help the Underwood Family with health costs and has grown and expanded to also help support the groundbreaking research that is being conducted by Reid’s doctor, Dr. Jakub Tolar, at the University of Minnesota’s Children’s Hospital.
