Jeep’s Vision of Off-Roading – “It’s like Tesla’s dating app, but less depressing”

We have been talking about the future Jeep vehicles for the past year now, and if you were paying attention you have heard us say the electric vehicle is coming…no matter what YOU want. In fact, the EV’s are coming so quickly that Europe will no longer bring in any other Wrangler than the hybrid!

We have talked about connectivity and software systems…and by that we mean connectivity between vehicles. Like most “news” stories, all of these comments typically fall on deaf ears, with the typically response being “well, it will never effect me…”. Guess what? If you think this way, you are going to struggle in the coming couple years.

As part of Stellantis Software Day, today the Jeep® brand posted “Freedom Connected,” a video that provides a glimpse into how the Jeep community could personalize and enhance their off-road experience in the future with the use of connected software technology. The piece explores ideas, such as a subscription service offering pre-loaded trails, over-the-air updates, vehicle-to-vehicle communication capabilities – even without cellular connectivity – and augmented reality display.

Our friends over at CarBuzz go in depth at to what those changes can and will look like. Do you use a “map app” for navigation…maybe an app like GAIA, onX or another? Well, Jeep will have their own.

Our favorite quote from the CarBuzz article is “It’s like Tesla’s dating app, but less depressing.” But our beloved Jeep is an important part of our history and the folks up high understand that. So on one hand new features are exciting, but for many of us we also know that all these new systems and features just mean that there will be more to go wrong. Either way, it’s coming…and there’s not a lot we can do about it…
