Most people have heard of the Grand Canyon, but not as many people are familiar with the second largest canyon in the United States. This gem, known as Palo Duro Canyon, is located outside of Amarillo, Texas. During my cross-country trip, I had the pleasure of cruising through.

The first thing you’ll see when you enter the park are some Texas longhorns! When I originally kicked off my road trip back in 2017 (yes, almost three years ago now), the first place I visited was Texas. That being said, it was absolutely fantastic to be back in the Lone Star State!

This incredible canyon covers 300,00 acres and is about 800 feet deep. I caught it right at sunset and got to see the sun hit the rocks just right, casting a gorgeous reddish-orange glow across the park. Although it isn’t a huge park, you can easily kill a day or two exploring it. There are a variety of hikes, picnic areas, and places to camp.

Palo Duro Canyon was yet another unplanned stop on my never-ending trip. I absolutely love going into road trips blind because you never know what you’ll find! If you’re in Texas, be sure to check out this awesome spot. Don’t forget to stay up to date with my blog to see where I’m currently exploring  🙂
