This Saturday poetry from our own Del Albright is right up our jeeping alley, as we all love campfires.  We think the bottom line message really brings it home for us and our ModernJeeper Adventures.  Check this out and be sure to hear the audio.

Cowboys Like Campfires
by Del Albright

Cowboys like campfires, like a guitar likes a song.
There’s something about fire heat, makes you feel like you belong.

You can smell the sagebrush in that cool evening air.
Maybe feel a little desert breeze ruffling your hair.

Gather ‘round your compadres and tell a tale or two.
There’ll be guns and cows and women, maybe some whiskey-talk too.

Around a campfire, you might hear the night song of the whippoorwill.
Then again, she may just stand stock steady, and be dead still.

Now and then you might hear a cow beller,
And you have to speak up for that hard-a-hearing feller.

But around a campfire, men will be who they are.
Telling their campfire tales, sitting under a midnight star.

Yea, the night desert air, there’s just nothing quite like it.
Drinking campfire coffee, wishing somebody would spike it.

The chill picks up then you toss another log on the fire,
Smiling as you watch those flames creep up a little higher.

You can kick back, relax, and feel the heat.
As it makes you feel safe, and warms your feet.

As the fire burns down, and she gets close to coals.
Look around that fire at your buddies, the feeling shows.

There are pictures in those flames, you gotta be there to see.
There are dragons and monsters, but there’s also desert scenery.

There’s nothing like wood smoke, you can smell it from a way off.
Makes you wanna kick your shoes off, and join in on the fun, sure enough.

Yea, some say they can read the future in those campfire flames.
Most ‘a time they’ve been hitting the jug, or just touched in the brains.

Cowboys like campfires and camping, I am telling you so.
So, don’t miss your chance, just get up and go.
